Description: Sparkhouse is the ecumenical division of Augsburg Fortress Publishers. The mission of sparkhouse is to spark new life in Christian communities. We develop innovative faith formation resources for kids, youth, and adults through design thinking, innovation, collaboration, and creativity. The sparkhouse team at Augsburg Fortress is hiring summer interns who are interested in acquiring valuable skills in editing, writing, product development, and project management. Editorial interns will join the Congregational Development team for 12 action-packed weeks of publishing stellar print and online resources for children, youth, and their families. Sparkhouse internships provide an educational experience built on hands-on training, instructive feedback, and challenging projects. We think it’s the best publishing internship in town.

Sparkhouse interns support the process of designing, developing, editing, and publishing sparkhouse resources for children and youth. This includes the following specific functions:
• Support the development of briefing materials for writers, theological reviewers, illustrators, and video animators
• Support the maintenance of writer relationships
• Support the editing of manuscripts
• Write original content for use in resources and on social media sites
• Conduct research on denominational trends, demographic patterns, competitor products, and other topics as needed
Length of Internship: 12 Weeks - Summer, 2016
Requirements: Desired education and experience:
• Major or minor in journalism, English, theology/religion, education, and/or music
• Experience working with the process of writing and publishing (i.e., campus newspaper, college alumni magazine, writing center)
• Experience with children and/or youth in educational, congregational, and/or outdoor ministry settings

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Necessary: Strong written and oral communication skills
• Necessary: Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects
• Necessary: Fluency with Microsoft Office
• Helpful: Knowledge of ELCA congregational life and organizations and/or other mainline Protestant denominations.
Location: The Augsburg Fortress paid internship program is robust, and includes flexible scheduling, time off, and no-cost gym access in the 510 Marquette fitness center! The beautiful, corporate, newly re-designed headquarters hosts 120 employees and is located in downtown Minneapolis with adjacent access to light Rail and MetroTransit bus lines, as well as skyway access to restaurants, banks, and shopping centers.
