Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: W. W. Norton, the largest and oldest publishing house owned wholly by its employees, is looking for a rising or current senior or recent graduate to intern in its Trade Managing Editorial Department, starting this summer. This internship will give you the opportunity to work on books in a variety of ways—from the basics of proofreading and copyediting to putting a manuscript together, to transcribing author and proofreader changes, to checking galleys, proofs, and miscellaneous parts of a book. It will also give you opportunities to work alongside project editors, acquiring editors, production managers, and art directors on a wide variety of hardcover and paperback titles.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Applicants should be organized, detail-oriented, able to work in an office environment, and able to work on the many diverse editorial areas of publishing. Experience with proofreading is a necessity. Specific work hours are flexible, but interns typically work 3 or 4 days a week for a maximum of 20 hours per week for a total of 3 months. The hourly rate is $9.00.


Location: Our office is located in the heart of midtown, on Fifth Avenue, across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, and within two blocks from the Theater District and Times Square.
Payment: $9/hour
