Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: W. W. Norton & Company’s Manuscript Editorial Department is looking for a current senior or recent graduate who is interested in learning more about college textbook publishing. This internship will provide the opportunity to work alongside the department’s project editors, managing editors, and developmental editors as they collaborate with other departments, such as acquisitions, permissions, design, and production, on college textbooks of various disciplines and during multiple stages in the publishing process. Through this internship, you will practice the basics of proofreading and copyediting, reviewing chapters and giving written feedback, helping build manuscripts, and cross-checking galleys, proofs, and blues.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Applicants should possess strong communication skills and be organized, detail-oriented, able to work both collaboratively and independently in an office environment, and curious about the world of textbook or academic publishing. Good handwriting and knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and basic proofreading marks also a plus!
Location: New York, NY
Payment: $9/hour
