Title: Remote Internship, The Experiment
Description: What we are looking for: An intern motivated by the opportunity to learn about the book publishing business from the unique perspective of an independent trade publishing company. Candidates for our internship positions are asked to commit to at least three months, working remotely three days a week (or 20 or more hours a week), with the option to work one or more days a week in our New York office if able and interested (and provided it’s safe to, following state and national mandates and guidelines). BIPOC people encouraged to apply!

Our editorially-focused publishing internship is an opportunity to learn about all aspects of both print and digital book publishing in a small, friendly environment. Our interns will have the opportunity to work closely with all departments, including production, publicity and marketing, sales, and digital, but especially editorial. Interns will get the chance to gain experience and develop skills researching and evaluating possible acquisitions; writing clear, effective copy, including back cover copy and tip sheets; proofreading a variety of materials; maintaining websites and social media; contributing to author/book publicity and marketing campaigns; as well as helping with periodic mailings and various administrative tasks.

Work hours are flexible between 9:30 and 6:30 EST, Monday through Friday. (Please note interns must be available to work within these hours no matter where they are located in the country.)

We offer a competitive hourly rate, or eligible applicants may receive school credit.

The internship can begin ASAP and can run through the end of May, subject to availability and intern’s preferred start and end date. Exact start and end dates to be determined at time of hire, with the first month on a trial basis.

What we offer:
A hospitable, low-stress work environment. A great opportunity to gain hands-on publishing experience and contacts in the book publishing industry as well as an in-depth understanding of the publishing process, as practiced by an established independently owned and run publisher.
Requirements: What we'd like from you: Prospective interns must have at least completed their sophomore year in college. Highly desirable requirements are outstanding written and communication skills, a firm grasp of the basic rules of English grammar, and an efficient and organized way of doing things. An interest in nonfiction publishing, especially in the areas that The Experiment publishes, is preferred. Previous office experience is preferred but not mandatory. Curiosity and an inclination and ability to ask questions are essential, as is discretion.

The intern must also have a personal computer, a stable internet connection with a minimum internet speed of 10MB download/5MB upload, and consent to our installing security software (remotely) onto their machine.
Company: THE EXPERIMENT
Location: New York, NY
How To Apply For This Job: Please email a cover letter and resume (as attachments, not in the body of the email) and at least one reference (with a phone number) to intern@theexperimentpublishing.com. Your cover letter may be addressed to Liana Willis and Grace Rambo (or "Internship Coordinators") and should briefly describe your skills and interests, how you found out about the internship (i.e. where you saw it advertised), what you hope to gain from the internship, the days of the week you're available to intern, your preferred start and end dates, and whether or not you are eligible for school credit. Appropriate candidates will be called for an interview. Applications submitted without a cover letter/e-mail will not be considered. Due to high application volume, only appropriate candidates will be contacted. Please no calls.
