Title: Editor
Description: The Editor will be responsible for managing and substantially growing the US Routledge English Language and Linguistics books program. They will create a strong commercial strategy for the English Language and Linguistics program in line with Routledge's overall objectives, will be aware of competitors' strengths and weaknesses, and will take advantage of opportunities in the market. They will pursue and develop book projects, notably textbooks and handbook reference products, in line with list strategy and will also progress contracted projects.

The role will involve close liaison with the UK Publisher and series editors and book authors, as well as marketing, production, and sales colleagues. The position will involve frequent convention and campus travel throughout North America and will be based in our New York office.

Key duties will include:

Maintain annual commissioning and revenue goals, with an emphasis on acquiring textbooks, reference, and also handbooks, but also securing some commercially attractive supplementary texts.
Meet annual publishing goals, working with authors to help them meet manuscript-submission deadlines, and liaising with production and authors to meet production and publishing deadlines.
The role will involve extensive research of the US English Language and Linguistics market, entailing frequent campus travel and some convention attendance in North America
Close liaison with the UK Publisher, series editors and book authors, as well as marketing, production, and sales colleagues
Experience and qualifications required include:

At least 2 years' experience as a Senior Editorial Assistant, Developmental Editor, and/or Associate Editor
Experience of commissioning textbooks and reference books for the Higher Education market in the US
Must be a self-starter who can work independently, while liaising effectively with other team members
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organized; keen financial sense, and ability to budget and analyze financial data; ability to prioritize work under pressure
Strong word processing, spreadsheet and database skills essential
Some knowledge of English Language and Linguistics is desirable
