Title: Editorial, Melville House
Description: Melville House is looking for an imaginative and gumptious individual to join our editorial program, someone who is adept at both the acquisition and the creation of book projects, as well as someone with connections who is experienced at working with agents and scouts.

Candidates must of course have full command of standard editorial skills as well as strong writing skills -- they should be an adroit line editor, copy writer, tip sheet compiler, and so forth.

Melville House is an extremely collaborative workplace, so we're also looking for someone who plays well with others, and can work closely with the sales, marketing, and publicity departments to support their books beyond the acquisition and editing stages.

In short, we're looking for someone who is well-versed in the fundamentals, has good contacts, a renegade sensibility that maybe doesn't fit in the corporate box, and who is not daunted and is in fact a bit excited by the changes sweeping the industry today.

Requirements: THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL JOB. Candidates must have at least 2-3 years experience working at a trade book publishing house, be highly organized, strictly disciplined, and with a keen ability to work within schedules and under deadline pressure. An orientation toward women's issues in fiction and nonfiction a plus.

We strongly encourage qualified minority applicants to apply.

Salary and title commensurate with experience.

Company: MELVILLE HOUSE
Location: Brooklyn, NY
How To Apply For This Job: Applications should be sent digitally to publishers' assistant Chris Alexander at pubassist@mhpbooks.com. Please include, as an attachment, a full resume as well as a cover letter addressed to publishers Dennis Johnson and Valerie Merians. In your cover letter, please discuss not only your experience, but how your skills match up to our list, and how they can help widen or improve our list. Please also include your salary requirements. MINORITY CANDIDATES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.
