Title: Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor,PublicAffairs
Description: SUMMARY:
PublicAffairs/Bold Type Books/ Economist Books, a current-affairs-focused nonfiction imprint of the Perseus Books division of Hachette Book Group, seeks to hire an Editorial Assistant or Assistant Editor to support the Publisher, as well as other members of the PublicAffairs editorial team, on a number of titles a season through all editorial and production stages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Read and evaluate submissions.
• Some clerical work required (phones, photocopying, mailings, office management).
• Develop relationships with and communicate with authors and agents
• Write cover and catalog copy.
• Prepare title fact sheets and P&Ls.
• Request contracts.
• Transmit manuscripts.
• Follow up with key departments including Legal, Copyediting, Managing Editor, Design, Production, and Sales.
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• 1-3 years previous book publishing experience
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Strong writing, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel required; knowledge of databases and ability to produce reports a plus.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings regardless of audience.
• Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail.
