Title: Literary Agent
Description: Full service literary agency is seeking an independent literary agent to add to our growing company.
Please have 2+ years of experience as a literary agent or rights agent. Experience may be substituted for publishing professionals who have worked at a mid-large sized publisher or other relevant publishing or editing experience (please describe in your resume).
We are a boutique agency which offers a full range of representation services to authors who are both published and pre-published. Our mission is to form true partnerships with our clients and build long-term relationships that extend from writing the first draft through the length of the authors career. We are an editorial-focused agency and prefer to work closely with our authors in helping to build strong, sustainable careers. Our lists represent a diverse and eclectic author base of new and seasoned authors both in fiction and non-fiction.

This position is commission-only with highly competitive split.
Requirements: Responsibilities:
-Reviewing, editing, and evaluating book concepts, proposals, and full-length manuscripts; providing feedback and revisions to authors; and line editing as needed.
-Pitching new manuscripts, proposals, portfolios for your author/illustrator clients.
-Completing sales for author/illustrator clients including negotiating contracts and managing subrights/liaising with subrights contacts.
-Developing, nurturing, and maintaining new and ongoing relationships with authors, artists, agents, and other industry professionals.
-Maintaining up-to-date records of all projects in the appropriate systems.
-Participation in agency meetings/discussions.
-Cultivating an awareness of trends and competition in the publishing industry.

Requirements:
-2+ years of experience working in the publishing industry. Negotiating and client management experience highly valued.
-High level of competency in Microsoft Word.
-Outstanding writing, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
-Must be an excellent communicator with an ability to establish a rapport with a myriad of personality types.
-Must have a go-getter attitude with the ability to work independently.
-Able to find publishers for authors in an efficient manner.

Desirable:
-Proximity to the Greater NYC-area is a plus but not required.
