Title: Senior Editor, Little, Brown
Description: SUMMARY:
The Senior Editor acquires, and edits illustrated books across a range of nonfiction categories. This professional is responsible for high quality editorial work and smoothly managing complex publishing plans, with a focus on achieving assigned sales and profit budget goals for the Voracious imprint. Voracious is devoted to books driven by appetite and curiosity, connecting readers with what they love the most—from politics and cooking to irreverent advice and pop culture. Most of our books are illustrated, and all of them are designed to make readers pick them up and immediately engage with them. Our authors are artists, entrepreneurs, cooks, storytellers, thought leaders, scientists, historians, humorists, and more. This professional reports to the VP, Editorial Director of Voracious.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Responsible for approximately 10-12 new acquisitions per year, contributing to publishing division profit goals
-Acquire and edit illustrated titles from a variety of sources, including authors with a proven track record, as well as new/debut authors
-Come up with new book ideas and commission authors (and publishing teams including art, design, and collaborators) to execute them
-Develop and maintain productive relationships with authors, agents, and project collaborators—as well as internal staff in Managing Editorial, Art, Production, Publicity, Marketing, and other departments
-Assist in developing publishing plans for acquired titles
-Manage title P&Ls and individual book budgets in collaboration with Production team, and track progress toward sales and profit budget goals
-Take on departmental projects and initiatives as assigned by VP, Editorial Director
-Prepare presentations and present as needed for sales conferences and other company meetings, as well as industry conferences and events
Requirements: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-Minimum 5-8 years of publishing experience, including acquiring and editing
-Solid track record of acquiring and editing/managing bestselling and profitable titles
-Strong knowledge of illustrated book publishing processes and functions—from acquisition through production and publication—with a strong understanding of an illustrated-books P&L
-Demonstrated record in author care and building author programs book-to-book
-Proven ability to take on multiple complex projects at once; excellent organization skills are a must
-Proven ability to initiate profitable, high-quality projects, from initial idea through acquisition to publication
-Solid knowledge of trade book sales and marketing strategies
-Excellent agent relationships
-Must be results driven and able to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate strong follow-up and follow-through
-Excellent written/verbal communications skills and polished presentation style a must
-Experience developing and managing budgets for book projects
