Title: Publishing Assistant
Description: Workman Publishing is seeking a full-time Publishing Assistant who will report directly to both the Publisher/Editorial Director and the Executive Associate Publisher.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the crossroads of the business and editorial sides of publishing. This position offers insight into sales, marketing, metadata, and the overall business of publishing, as well as participation in the editorial process, including editorial acquisitions discussions, submission reading, and full editorial responsibility for several calendar titles each year on our innovative and bestselling calendar list.

The ideal candidate will be responsible and self-directed, with excellent time management and communication skills, as well as a comfort with interacting with a wide range of people and departments. A passion for books and a desire to work within a community committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion is a must. But perhaps most important, this person will be driven by curiosity—a desire to not only do a task well and in a timely manner, but to understand why they are doing it, and why it matters.

Responsibilities:
• Title management database and Edelweiss catalog maintenance for Workman adult books, children’s books, and calendars
• Metadata and keyword development and maintenance
• Sales report generation and sales tracking
• Administrative duties, including answering phones, managing departmental schedules, and planning department events
• Editorial support on new and backlist titles, and full responsibility for editorial work on multiple calendar projects
• Meet all internal and external deadlines
• Represent Workman, and Workman’s values, to authors, agents, and customers
• Support Publisher/Editorial Director and Executive Associate Publisher in all that they do

Qualifications:
• Excellent time management and communication skills
• Ability to problem-solve quickly and independently
• Strong writing skills and impeccable grammar
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint

Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home for the foreseeable future, although interested candidates must reside in either NY, NJ, or CT and be able to commute to Workman’s NYC office full-time when it’s once again safe to work in an office environment.
