Title: Developmental Editor -- No Starch Press
Description:

Shape the Future of Tech Publishing



No Starch Press publishes many of the world’s most respected technical books for hackers, engineers, computer scientists, and the endlessly curious. We’re looking for a Developmental Editor who can help transform complex ideas into engaging, accessible books that educate and inspire.



Responsibilities



  • Develop and manage multiple technical book projects from concept through publication

  • Work directly with authors to refine clarity, structure, and technical precision

  • Hire and manage technical reviewers and subject-matter experts

  • Guide manuscripts through editorial and production stages

  • Collaborate across editorial, marketing, and production to ensure excellence


Requirements:

Qualifications



  • 5+ years of developmental or substantive editing experience in technical publishing

  • Strong grasp of programming concepts and computer science fundamentals

  • Proven experience managing complex technical projects and collaborating with authors

  • Excellent editorial judgment, communication, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Word or LibreOffice; familiarity with LaTeX or Overleaf a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in a remote setting



Compensation and Benefits



  • Salary: $57,000–$85,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

  • Benefits: 401(k) with matching, health/dental/vision insurance, flexible schedule, paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan
