Program Name: City College of New York Publishing Certificate Program
Education Awarded: Certificate as part of bachelor's degree program.
Description: Inaugurated in September of 1997, The Publishing Certificate Program (PCP) at CCNY was formed on the initiative of best-selling author and CCNY graduate alumnus Walter Mosley. The program is unique in offering undergraduates and non-matriculating students a variety of courses and seminars which will provide them with the knowledge, skills and contacts necessary to enter the publishing field. A special concern of the PCP is the issue of diversity in the book publishing industry and its impact on cultural production. Drawing on CCNY's racial, ethnic, national and class diversity and its proximity to the heart of the book industry, the Program is uniquely situated to address this industry-wide concern. Training, meaningful employment, and job retention is of key interest to the PCP's staff and faculty. The Publishing Program has received program support from the following publishers: Harcourt, Inc., Random House, AOL Time Warner Book Group, John Wiley and Sons, Inc., W.W. Norton, HarperCollins, Inc., Scholastic, Inc. and the Penguin Group.
