Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Company Name: SUSANNA LEA ASSOCIATES
Description: Susanna Lea Associates is a boutique literary agency with offices in New York, Paris, and London, focused on representing books with international appeal. We are seeking a part-time intern for the fall, with a commitment of 2-3 days per week (schedule is flexible). The internship is compensated with a weekly stipend. This internship will offer the right candidate exposure to the publishing industry from the perspective of an international literary agency. Our New York office is small, so our interns have the opportunity to be involved with many aspects of the business, including manuscript review and development, as well as contract negotiations. You’ll read a lot, write a lot, and learn a lot about the publishing industry, with an emphasis on foreign rights.

Proficiency in foreign languages is not essential but highly valued, particularly French.

Responsibilities include:

-reading and responding to solicited and unsolicited book proposals

-editing/copyediting commissioned translations

-helping to prepare manuscripts for submission to publishers (includes creating pitch letters, researching publishers, editing manuscripts, and providing feedback for authors)

-updating our agency's social media accounts with engaging content

-scheduling agent meetings for international book fairs

-general office and administrative work as needed

We will be in the office on a part-time basis this fall, but the internship can be fully remote.

Start and end dates flexible.
