Title: Assistant Editor/Associate Editor - The Experiment
Description: The Experiment seeks an assistant editor or associate editor to solicit, evaluate, acquire, and development- and line-edit (mainly) practical nonfiction books especially in the areas of healthful eating (vegan/plant-based & special diets); self-help, psychology, & relationships; and lifestyle, health & wellness.

The assistant editor or associate editor will have primary responsibility for all copy related to their books and will also closely collaborate with publicity/marketing, managing editorial, production, finance, and sales.
Requirements: We seek someone who is intensely curious, a persevering initiative-taker and problem solver, closely attuned to current trends and engaged on social media, happy to work both independently and collaboratively, and highly detailed-oriented with superlative written and verbal communication skills.

We require knowledge of and at least two full years of experience acquiring and editing in the subject areas noted above, and/or assisting in such acquiring and editing. Applicants should ideally have experience initiating projects directly with authors, as well as working with agents and foreign publishers. Reading knowledge of languages other than English (especially German and French) is not required but is a plus.

The Experiment is an independent publisher founded in 2008 and committed to publishing a wide range of nonfiction as well as select children’s storybooks with a teaching mission. We've developed a +400-title-strong list encompassing a wide range of practical and narrative nonfiction, including (in addition to the subjects noted above) books on popular science & nature; history, current affairs & memoir; giftable, illustrated reference; pregnancy & parenting; creativity (art, coloring & puzzles books). We're open to applicants who wish to work remote or in our NYC office. All NYC-based employees work two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday) in our office, although we pause that requirement when NYC's COVID risk status is high or very high. NYC-based employees may elect to work in the office up to all five weekdays (and numerous employees do so elect).

We are a collegial, creative, book-loving, and hard-working crew, with offices near Gramercy Park in Manhattan.
