| Description: | Skyhorse Publishing, one of the fastest growing independent publishers in America, is seeking an energetic, team-oriented candidate to work in our editorial department in our midtown Manhattan office.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is eager to learn and grow in this industry. We offer competitive compensation including health, dental, vision, and 401(k). As the Editor, the candidate will be responsible for acquiring and editing titles and working toward building a robust fiction list for Sky Pony Press. Responsibilities may include: • Acquire and edit titles • Provide data to Sales, Marketing & Publicity for titles as requested • Work with Editorial Director on contract negotiations • Conform to editorial style rules set by the publisher • Meet all deadlines set by the Managing Editor • Mentor Editorial Assistant on editorial questions and skills • Attend writers’ conferences and other yearly conferences • Work closely with the Editorial Director to prepare presentations for biannual presales and sales conferences. Attend and/or present at biannual sales conferences as requested • Manage drop-in titles for Sky Pony Press as requested • Attend weekly jacket meetings with the Editorial Director and the art department |
| Requirements: | • BA in English or related field
• 5-7 years of experience in children’s book publishing • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Some managerial experience a plus • Immediate availability preferred |
