Title: | Production Editor (Part-Time) |
Description: | Counterpoint Press (www.counterpointpress.com) is seeking a part-time Production Editor. The ideal candidate has exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to juggle projects and duties, demonstrated organizational skills, a passion for books and reading, and most importantly strong skills in proofreading, copyediting, design, print production, and advanced skills in Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office.
Applicants must have a BA in English, Communications, or a related field, as well as relevant experience. Candidates must have impeccable attention to detail, the ability to be proactive and solve problems, and a communication style that instills confidence in authors, editors, and designers. The position reports directly to the Editorial Director. Job Type: Part-time, 28-30 hours a week. This position is located in Berkeley, CA. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Act as project manager for 25 book titles per year, including fiction, nonfiction, and paperbacks. • Ensure highest standards of editorial and design quality. • Create and enforce book production schedules. • Guide multiple books concurrently through all stages of production. • Hire and manage vendors for cover design, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and indexing. Evaluate and approve their work. • Guide authors through production process, including their reviews of copyedited mss. and laid-out page proofs; help resolve editorial queries. • Approve final files and press proofs, both digital and hard copy. • Coordinate paperback reprints, including creating cover design files to fit paperback format. • Collaborate with editorial, publicity, and marketing colleagues on books' titles, designs, and schedules. • Produce marketing ads/flyers as time permits. Requirements: | 1-2 years' publishing experience required, preferably at a trade book publisher of high-quality fiction and nonfiction. |
