As Melville House is a mission-driven company, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about the kind of books we publish. And, as the company maintains a highly collaborative, imaginative workplace, this position will also work closely with the marketing, sales, publicity and even editorial teams to come up with ideas, create and coordinate campaigns, and champion our books in the fullest way possible.

Specific duties include:

• Expand and run our extensive newsletter and social media marketing program to libraries and the academy
• Broadcast and expand the availability of, and fulfill requests for, Edelweiss, NetGalley, and print galleys
• Organize regular Librarian Preview events at Melville House HQ and elsewhere (NYPL, for example)
• Partner with Penguin Random House Library Marketing — our distribution and sales partner — in order to maximize visibility of Melville House titles
• Work with Penguin Random House Academic Services in order to maximize visibility of Melville House titles
• Pursue marketing opportunities in library and academic spaces such as conferences, Book Buzzes, and other trade events, and run those events
• Being funny every now and then

Requirements: THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION. Applicants should have at least two years experience working in a book publishing house marketing department.

In addition, applicants should possess:

• Excellent people skills
• Good contacts and strong relationships a plus
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines
• High organization skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Solid social media abilities
• Ability to design newsletters and social media ads
• Ability to play well with others

Company: MELVILLE HOUSE
Location: Brooklyn, NY
