OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Publicity, the Publicity & Marketing Assistant supports every stage of the book publicity and marketing process and helps organize social media strategy for Tin House Books. RESPONSIBILITIES: *Work closely with the Director of Publicity to brainstorm and implement creative campaign tactics for each title *Expand and update the institutional database of reviewers, interviewers, and other media contacts *Build carefully tailored media lists for each title, incorporating national, regional, and local contacts *Draft pitches and other press kit materials, as requested *Design press releases and other promotional materials, as needed *Coordinate and promote one-off author events and national tours when appropriate *Manage and track all award submissions *Draft targeted monthly newsletters *Manage the Tin House Books Galley Club *Organize and help implement social media strategy (including influencer campaigns) across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in collaboration with the book, magazine, and workshop divisions *Track social media strategy effectiveness in terms of both community engagement and sales *Complete light administrative tasks *Attend/participate in Tin House events: readings, workshops, trade shows, etc. HOURS: Monday–Friday, 9AM–5PM. Occasional evening/weekend events. COMPENSATION: $34,000 annually. This is a full-time position with benefits. |
Requirements: | QUALIFICATIONS:
*Undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, or a related field; or equivalent experience *At least one year of publishing experience, with an emphasis on publicity and/or marketing *Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster Dictionary *Strong command of English language and grammar *Impeccable attention to detail *Excellent written and verbal communication skills *Ability to work independently and collaboratively *Fluency with Mac OS and software, Google Drive, and major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)—experience with Cision, WordPress, Google Analytics, MailChimp, and Photoshop a plus PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Publicity & Marketing Assistant will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The Assistant must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40lbs. |
