Requirements: Position Description:

This individual will handle all aspects of book design for multiple imprints. This will include editorial and author consultation, complete interior design, and all follow-through to bound book. Will also hire illustrators, cartographers, etc., negotiate contracts, and be the staff liaison for free-lanced projects.


Major Responsibilities:

* Create and submit design layouts for approval; castoff manuscripts; on comp jobs, provide typesetting specifications; check all stages of proofs; provide detailed information on transmittal memos; keep book files current.
* Design inserts, and binding die mechs.
* Maintains schedules—meet deadlines. Prompt updating of Design Director’s Status report. Maintain budgets.
* Work closely with Production and Production Editorial Departments, as well as Editorial, and Outside Vendors.
* Assist Design Director with work overflow, when needed


Required Skills / Knowledge:

*Book Paging
*Knowledge of typography, graphic design, book manufacturing, printing, and production.
* Proficiency with graphic software programs on Macintosh Platform and InDesign a must.
* Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator—proficiency in any graphic programs a plus.
* Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, a plus.


Experience Needed:

*3-4 years of prior relevant work experience [Design].


Educational Background Required

* College Graduate with eye for detail, command of the English language, excellent proofreading skills a must. Interior book design training required.
