Title: Director of Publicity, Melville House
Description: Melville House is a mission-driven company looking for an experienced publicist and person of vision to lead what is widely recognized as one of the most innovative and successful publicity/marketing departments in independent publishing. Reporting solely to the publisher, the publicity director will be responsible for: creating and developing strategies to get our books into the media marketplace and the culture at large; leading the team that will implement those strategies; and, in general, spearheading the effort to bring our books into widespread public discussion and the greatest possible readership.

As well, the publicity director will, over time, be in charge of hiring, and mentoring, junior-level publicity staffers, and assigning their work to them. Overall, the director of this team will be responsible for all aspects of book publicity, including: designing campaigns; writing or supervising the writing of press materials; securing coverage; managing pre-publication reviews and publicity; arranging and managing events and tours; working with authors; and raising the company's profile. The director will also be in charge of corporate announcements, and representing the publicity department at sales meetings and other industry events.
