Title: Editorial Assistant, Grand Central Publishing
Description: SUMMARY:
The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing editorial and administrative support to an VP/Executive Editor and Editor specializing in narrative nonfiction, one with a strong focus on pop culture and celebrity and the other on cultural criticism, true crime, history and investigative journalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Write catalog, cover and promotional copy and prepare fact sheets.
-Prepare contract requests and process payments.
-Communicate with authors and agents about queries, payments, sales information, etc.
-Traffic editorial projects through Production, Copyediting, Legal, -Design, Publicity and Marketing, and secure appropriate approvals.
-Enter title data into proprietary databases system and track data throughout publishing process.
-Prepare pre-acquisition materials, including profit-and-loss statements.
-Read and report on manuscripts, proposals and books submitted for publication.
-Draft rejection letters for materials submitted for publication.
-Coordinate meetings, including agendas and minutes.
-Perform administrative duties, including: photocopying, sorting mail, filing, directing/responding to phone calls, etc.
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
-Minimum of 1 year of publishing experience strongly preferred (internships ok) or other editorial work experience.
-Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in narrative nonfiction and pop culture.
-Excellent organizational skills with the ability to ability to attend to details and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
-Excellent writing skills.
-Solid computer skills.
-Polished communication skills & interpersonal skills.
-Prior office experience preferred.
-Ability to work overtime on occasion, if needed.
