Title: Assistant Editor, Exam Preparation and Content Dev
Description: JOB PURPOSES
The Assistant Editor ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the Exam Preparation and Content Development department, working directly with internal staff and external editors, authors, and vendors, as required. The Assistant Editor supports the Executive Director, Editorial Director, Director of Content Development, and Acquisitions Editor in all aspects of the print and digital publishing process from conception to publication or digital product launch. Coordinates prioritization and completion of assigned projects and interfaces with authors and staff throughout all project phases. Supports editorial staff as required and serves as a key interdepartmental contact.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with evaluation of production- and/or digital-readiness of Exam Preparation products, including evaluation of content to ensure consistency and adherence to templates/guidelines/project specifications; identification and procurement of missing components; alignment with file-naming conventions; accurate and thorough completion of transmittal materials; and creation of final tables of content, lists of contributors, and other front-matter materials.
- Ensure departmental data integrity, including the updating and maintenance of publishing plans, print/digital product-launch schedules, acquisitions pipelines, project schedules, and other reports. Maintain consistent, daily, real-time updating of internal databases to ensure optimal data accuracy and reporting.
- Prepare and distribute author guidelines; provide related author training; manage queries about manuscript preparation/submission and permissions.
- Follow up with external authors/editor as required to ensure timely project completion and accurate status reporting.
- Assist with the editorial review of content, soliciting reviews of proposals, manuscripts, and other content components as required; prepare review summaris
- Assist with the quality assurance and review of content presentation and user functionality in digital products and apps.
- Request and evaluate cover designs and descriptive copy according to established production and marketing schedules to ensure accurate reflection of product attributes/features and optimal marketing and promotion.
- Prepare, record, and route departmental contracts and ensure timely internal/external receipt and processing
- Administrate departmental invoices and payments according to project specifications; maintain accurate and current payment logs; manage contributor copy process
- Manage the editorial process of selected contracted manuscripts, assuming all author communications from contract to publication.
- Assist with market research tasks, such as survey administration, market data collection, and focus group support as assigned.
- Adhere to established Editorial/Production workflows; initiate and maintain improvements to workflows and systems as required.
- Attend 1 to 2 annual professional conferences per year, which may involve overnight travel.
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2 years of publishing experience; experience working with exam preparation content a plus
- BA required
- Detail-oriented and extremely organized with superior project management and written/oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and effectively manage time
- Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently
- Unwavering drive for results and tenacious can-do attitude
- Superior computer skills required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require travel of about 10%.
