Title: Editorial Assistant
Description: Workman Publishing (workman.com), an innovative independent publisher of nonfiction books and calendars, seeks an editorial assistant to work with an executive editor and support other editors on a project basis.
 
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, curious, industrious, highly organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently. Candidate should be a dedicated reader of magazines, blogs, social media, etc., with an engagement with culture and trends. An interest in general adult nonfiction, lifestyle, humor, pop history/science, and self-help is preferred. This is an exciting opportunity to learn the ins and outs of both the book and calendar businesses. Candidates of color and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist executive editor with both her books and calendars; assist other editors with projects as needed.
• Work toward being able to edit a range of calendars independently
• Administrative and clerical duties, such as keeping track of book and calendar schedules; reviewing catalog copy; and sending contracts and payments
• Review proposals and manuscripts
• Write interesting, accurate captions; basic fact-checking
• Brainstorm ideas for new books and calendars
• Participate in weekly editorial meetings
 
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to multitask and prioritize
• Expert at grammar, with a real grasp of language and usage
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Comfortable with the MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
