Position Profile

Bloomsbury is seeking a dynamic publicity assistant to join the New York-based team of the adult trade division, working on fiction and nonfiction. This position will perform key administrative tasks for the publicity department and will work closely with the Senior Director of Publicity and Communications to implement strategic public relations plans to create high-impact media and event opportunities for authors. The ideal candidate has a passion for literature and history, a strong work ethic, creativity, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and is a skilled verbal and written communicator. Written communication involves writing pitch letters and press releases, and internal memos.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provides administrative support to the Publicity team including book mailings, budget maintenance and generating internal communications
• Manages support tasks associated with major publicity campaigns such as assisting the Publicity team with national media surrounding a book launch, and scheduling cars, flights and hotels for author tours
• Effective and professional outreach to media contacts
• Fields incoming media and event requests in a fast-paced environment
• Help schedule author tours with both traditional bookstore appearances and off-site partnered events
• Actively develop and maintains media contacts, including national, regional, local and online
• Write press releases and pitch letters, and other promotional book campaign materials
• Liaise with colleagues in marketing (includes digital), sales, and editorial departments
• Oversee the department MasterCard billing, process author invoices and check requests, and create budget in Excel





Requirements: Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
• B.A, or B.S. degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field
• Demonstrated skill in working in a professional media or publishing environment (prior office experience or internship) in publicity
• Vested interest in publicity and book publishing
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
• Understanding of digital media, including bloggers and social media
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Must possess excellent organization, great attention to detail, and strong follow-up skills
• Experience with Cision and Publicity Assistant a plus

Location: Location: Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home until further notice. Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT, or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office full-time when the office re-opens. Flex time available.
