Description: | Little Bee Books is looking for an Editor for imprints Little Bee Books and Yellow Jacket. We are a children’s book publisher dedicated to making high-quality, creative, and fun books for busy little bees of all ages. Little Bee Books offers an inspired selection of board books, novelty books, activity books, picture books, chapter books, nonfiction, gift sets, middle grade fiction, graphic novels, and more. The Editor is responsible for independently building a list that reflects both their taste and the needs of the house. An editor is responsible for 6-8 titles a season, seeking out and maintaining relationships with authors, agents and illustrators, negotiating major contract terms, and mentoring junior staff as needed. Requirements: | Main Responsibilities:
• Acquire, develop, and edit original manuscripts for a variety of formats including board books, novelty books, chapter books, picture books, middle grade novels, and graphic novels for all ages. • Maintain professional and responsive communication with authors, agents, and co-edition partners. • Take part in creative brainstorming sessions, reviewing, and submitting materials for weekly Editorial Meetings. • Present new projects at acquisitions meetings • Responsible for title P&L’s. • Create tip sheets for titles with relevant and researched comparable titles. • Negotiate major contract terms and see contracts through to execution. • Present title list at regular sales and launch meetings. • Stay on top of publishing trends and needs of the marketplace. • Mentor junior staff as needed. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university preferred, or college course work and knowledge gained through equivalent work experience. • At least five years’ experience in children’s editorial required. • Experience editing a variety of children’s book formats required. • Expertise editing middle grade novels strongly preferred. • Experience developing novelty formats ideal. • Ability to develop original IP a plus. • Ability to negotiate the major terms of a contract required • Exceptional communication skills and time management skills. • Organized and capable of multi-tasking. • Strong attention to detail.
