Title: Assistant Managing Editor - Journals
Description: Guilford Publications, located near Penn Station in Manhattan, is looking for a savvy, experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Journals professional to join our team. The position works closely with the Journals Managing Editor, as well as with Societies and vendors. The Assistant Managing Editor works independently and as part of a team in a friendly and challenging atmosphere. This busy, detailed role includes handling production for a number of journals from initial manuscript to final files for print and web, maintaining Guilford’s periodical website, and building and maintaining successful relationships with Societies. The Assistant Managing Editor will interact directly with all external stakeholders of our journals community—including authors, reviewers, readers, and editors—and will provide research, analysis, and planning to drive the objectives of our journals.

Responsibilities
• Manage and perform all production tasks to keep journals on timely schedule, from initial stages of outreach to editor to publication online.
• Update and maintain Guilford’s periodicals website (guilfordjournals.com).
• Coordinate posting of journals, including uploading and reviewing issues, among all service providers.
• Responsible for timely disbursement of all editorial and society office payments and typesetter and copyeditor invoices.
• Maintain society relationships including invoicing and special requests by Societies.
• Work with Managing Editor on development of acquisition of new journals.

Work Arrangements
This position reports to the Journals Managing Editor and is based out of our New York City offices. We are flexible; currently our staff is a combination of remote and in-office. Guilford Publications complies with the New York City Commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene’s order requiring vaccination in the workplace, all employees, and those entering our workplace for any extended period of time, must show proof of vaccination.

Compensation
Salary range for this position is $68,000 to $72,500. Comprehensive benefits are offered.

Requirements: This position requires solid editorial experience, strong project leadership skills, the ability to make informed decisions and solve problems independently, and the ability to manage and cultivate relationships with stakeholders, as well as individual and institutional consumers. Attention to detail is imperative, as is the ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to juggle multiple demands and deadlines, communicate work flow processes and concerns, handle confidential material, and accommodate changing work needs. Strong computer skills—including MS Office suite’s Excel—required. Knowledge of APA style, HTML, PageBuilder, Acrobat Reader, and FTP sites is helpful. A college degree is preferred, as is 5 years scholarly publishing or other relevant experience.
