Title: Development Manager, APA Style
Description: The Development Manager, APA Style is responsible for management of products and projects in the APA Style portfolio, including the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Mastering APA Style Student Workbook, APA Style website, and related products, resources, and media.

The incumbent will conduct market research, identify market problems and solutions by working with prospective and current customers, analyze consumer feedback, assess the competitive landscape, and leverage the distinctive competencies of the APA Style brand to deliver authoritative products and resources that enhance APA’s reputation for quality and elevate APA Style. As a brand and product ambassador, the incumbent develops a network of external advocates and conducts presentations, workshops, and webinars to raise the profile of APA Style.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, psychology, or other social or behavioral science; graduate degree strongly preferred.
8–10 years of scholarly writing, editorial, publishing, and/or teaching experience or a combination of applied experience with a graduate degree.
Expert knowledge of APA Style and applied experience developing instructional APA Style materials for users of all levels. Instructional experience in higher education classroom or writing center setting can substitute for expert knowledge of APA Style.
Thorough understanding of scholarly writing, research, and publishing; deep engagement in educational markets and the field of psychology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for articulating product goals and market needs, developing content for students and instructors, and conducting formal presentations and product demonstrations.
Pragmatic Marketing or Project Management certification desirable.
Computer Skills Required:

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Proficiency with project management and product roadmapping and tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Trello) or ability to quickly gain proficiency.
Proficiency using reference management software (e.g., RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero) or ability to quickly gain proficiency.
Experience using research databases, search platforms, and learning management systems (LMS) preferred.
Experience with survey/market research and web analytics preferred.
Responsibilities:

Manages APA Style projects from conceptualization through release by identifying project scopes, milestones, schedules, and aims and by assigning project responsibilities and tasks to ensure on-time completion within established parameters. These projects may include books, workbooks, test banks, lecture slides, instructional aids and handouts, and/or other print and digital products and resources.
Coordinates internal and external collaboration on APA Style projects and monitors all project-related activities engaged in by cross-functional teams within and outside of APA, including ensuring timely communication on project-related meetings, decisions, and actions and providing day-to-day contact on project status, changes, and needs.
Enhances the visibility of APA Style products (both individually and as part of the suite of print and digital resources) within secondary and higher education, psychology, nursing, and related markets by collaborating with the APA Style and Marketing teams to deliver conference sessions, symposia, workshops, exhibit features, and other programming at onsite and virtual events.
Consults with APA Style consumers, influencers, and decision makers (including instructors, students, researchers, librarians, and APA stakeholders) and conducts research to determine market needs and solutions to market problems.
Cultivates an external network of brand and product contributors, reviewers, and evangelists who provide feedback on new resources and/or improvements to APA Style as well as promote their use of APA Style at industry events.
Collaborates with APA Style team members, product vendors, and other stakeholders to ideate and release innovative product features and enhancements. Consults with Product Management on new products and features for products that draw on APA Style (e.g., Academic Writer).
Collaborates with Marketing on APA Style customer outreach to include email campaigns, product spotlights, promotional offerings, sponsorships, webinars and videos, and other opportunities.
Works with Books, Higher Education, and other relevant Sales, Marketing, and Customer Engagement staff to ensure cohesive user messaging, establish distinct but complementary value propositions for related products, and to identify user pain points and help drive adoption, usage, and retention.
Collaborates with the APA Style, web, and ITS teams to plan and review web projects and enhancements for the APA Style website and blog and with external partners (e.g., VitalSource/Acrobatiq) to make updates to APA Style product pages.
Performs other duties as assigned.
