Title: Acquisitions Editor, Moon Travel Guides
Description: Moon Travel Guides, a leading publisher of guidebooks to destinations throughout the world, is hiring an Acquisitions Editor to manage scheduling, editorial development, manuscript delivery, and author recruitment for its dynamic list, which is a mix of new titles and revised editions. This role will primarily be responsible for revised editions: developing revision plans, negotiating and scheduling new editions with authors, working with authors to bring in the revised manuscript on schedule (including photos and map information), and recruiting new authors when necessary. The Acquisitions Editor may also take an active role in developing new and existing products for the Moon list, staying well-versed in the U.S. and international markets and ensuring that Moon products deliver a valuable experience to travelers in their target markets. In addition to revised editions, the Acquisitions Editor may sign new first editions and manage a few specialty titles as needed.

The ideal candidate for this position would have previous experience developing editorial products and content, be adept at managing writers for long-term projects, have excellent project management, critical thinking, and communication skills, and be very familiar with Moon Travel Guides. A love of travel is essential, and being an avid traveler who uses guidebooks is helpful.

Essential skills and experience:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent attention to detail
Previous developmental editing experience
Ability to juggle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
Strong track record of delivering well-executed projects on schedule
Flexibility and a positive attitude
At least four years of publishing or related experience
Requirements: Specific responsibilities:

Draft revision plans and confirm revision schedules with authors
Negotiate contract terms with authors and agents
Research the market and destinations of assigned projects, including analyzing competing titles
Understand, develop, and implement the applicable Moon series guidelines on all projects
Keep up with trends and changes in travel and travel guidebooks
Coordinate with managing editor and Production, Cartography, and Marketing departments to ensure quality of assigned projects
Enter title data into HBG systems and run P&Ls for assigned projects
Recruit new authors as needed
Manage special book projects as needed
