Title: Production Editor
Description: Timber Press, an imprint under the Workman Publishing division of Hachette Book Group, is seeking a production editor to manage the production of 15 to 20 titles per year. Timber Press is dedicated to sharing the wonders of the natural world by publishing books from experts in the fields of horticulture and natural history.

Responsibilities:

Manages 15 to 20 titles per year from manuscript to bound book/ebook, including heavily illustrated, design-intensive titles, as well as narrative nonfiction titles
Completes electronic manuscript prep for design handover
Hires and supervises freelance copyeditors and indexers
Reviews copyediting and all stages of manuscripts and page proofs; coordinates review of page proofs with authors
Copyedits and proofreads jacket and cover materials from original copy through final proof
Works closely with various in-house departments including editorial, production, and art in anticipating and resolving problems; works with authors throughout editing and production
Attends relevant department and interdepartmental meetings
Requirements: Qualifications:

3+ years relevant work experience, preferably in trade publishing; experience with heavily illustrated books a big plus
Solid copyediting and proofreading skills
Strong computer/MS Word skills and knowledge of electronic copyediting and coding
Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
Excellent organizational skills, with an aptitude for process development and innovation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Candidate must be detail- and accuracy-oriented and have the ability to balance many projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high standards of quality
