Title: | Production Assistant |
Description: | Humanoids is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join its US Publishing Division in the role of Production Assistant.
This position operates under the general direction of the Director of Publishing Operations, responsible for assisting them in the production, fabrication—including printing and shipping—of all titles on the US Publishing slate and their respective sales & marketing assets, as well as providing Editorial and Design support on an as-need basis. Candidates must have a design background with a firm knowledge of Adobe Suite. They must be able to work quickly while maintaining an exceptional attention to detail in a lively environment of strict deadlines, often with interruptions and changing priorities. Essential Duties: - Prep Book files: - Receive, vet, and file incoming art and lettering files - Build out InDDs on a rolling basis - Regularly generate PDFs for review on in-progress titles and file in respective folders - Proofread Book Files and Sales & Marketing materials when instructed using designated tracking docs - Create and contribute to various Production/Editorial Google Docs (including info sheets and flatplans) - Maintain Physical and Digital Archives: - Generate light PDFs and file in “Books > Final” folder of all Titles (and Editions) once approved at Printer - Send and receive US and FR Creator book comps from office inventory or distributor warehouses and update relevant US and FR tracking tools - Manage office stock archiving and tracking - Metadata Prep: - Assist with the exporting of digital assets (i.e. covers, sample pages) for website and distributor metadata - Help to collect files and data for digital comics and relay to appropriate parties - Update website and other tracking tools with relevant title information/metadata - Review and summarize pitches from Pitch Portal and assess which should be passed along to Senior Editor - Attend team meetings - Maintain positive working relationships with publishing and producing partners - Maintain editorial policy and style while completing various writing responsibilities - Continuously strive to provide excellent customer service, interpersonal communication and serve as a source of accurate company information |
Requirements: | This position must be able to:
• Execute assigned production jobs in a timely manner and on schedule • Take direction well • Communicate closely with Director of Ops, Senior Editor, and Designers • Navigate Adobe Suite efficiently • Understand various digital formats and vet files to make sure they meet the required specs • Examine files with a close attention to detail • Cross-reference and populate tracking tools with a high level of accuracy • Work from Humanoids’ Hollywood Office 4+ days a week, as well as remotely if needed Education, Experience and Skills Required: • 2+ years of workplace experience (internships/work-study acceptable) • Interest in the publishing, graphic novel and comic book industry and production process • Proficiency and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite on a Mac platform (especially InDD and AI) • Proficiency and familiarity with the Office Suite on a Mac platform • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-setting • Ability to multitask and organize efficiently • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and across digital channels • Ability and willingness to learn and grow new skills • Must have firm understanding with design and file set-up for digital media (including banner ads, email blasts, site skins, social media graphics) • Background and education in typography and design aesthetics • Knowledge of design styles, both historic and current Physical Requirements: Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal and telephone communication. Ability to sit for long periods, standing, computer entry, walking, repeated bending, lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs, reaching. Ability to travel within and outside the county as needed. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for candidates with disabilities. Environmental Requirements: Must be able to work indoors in a predominately sedentary position. Wide range of physical motion required to include bending, twisting, standing, walking, carrying boxes and supplies, sitting for long periods of time, answering the telephone, using hands to type and enter data and perform a wide-range of office and clerical duties. Must consistently maintain composure and meet office challenges with maturity, objectively and strive to deliver the utmost in customer service at all times. Scheduling and Availability: Due to the nature of the industry and communication with international offices working hours are variable, which may include evenings and weekends. Generally, office hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday with one hour for lunch. Position is 40+ hours per week. |
