Title: | Design Assistant |
Description: | W.W. Norton & Company is seeking a Design Assistant in their award-winning Trade Art Department. Come join a growing and energized team where you can work on prizewinning books and learn about design from a group of industry leading creatives. The Design Assistant will be responsible for general tasks related to the design and production of jackets and covers for our Trade Hardcover, Paperback, Liveright, Countryman Press, and Norton Young Reader lists. Candidates must be detail oriented, possess a critical eye for design, have excellent communication and organization skills, and have a passion for book publishing. This position will report to the Creative Director of the Trade department.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include: • Assist the prepress coordinator with assigning, designing, and routing mechanicals for press. • Assist the studio manager and photo editor with purchase orders, invoices, image clearances, agendas, and cross departmental correspondences. • Assist the art directors on list management tasks, including corresponding with freelancers on invoice status, accepting and logging final design files for archiving, and following up with editorial on reading materials. • Work with the Senior Designer of paperbacks to complete paperback cover adoptions. • Oversee department submissions to awards and competitions. • Correspond with marketing and other departments for successful file transferring. • Assist art directors with creating digital presentations for virtual jacket meetings. • Assist the creative director with tasks related to department tracking and expenses. • General assistance and covering for a team member when extra help is needed, i.e. during a deadline or when someone is out sick. Requirements: | Required Qualifications:
• Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the U.S. • This role is remote, but includes responsibilities that require in-office participation, so must be in commutable distance from our Manhattan office. • W.W. Technical Skills • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Google G-suite. Annual compensation for this position is $42,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location and like considerations. |
