Title: Publicity Assistant, Workman Publishing
Description: SUMMARY:

Workman Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group is seeking a dynamic, motivated and talented Publicity Assistant to join the Publicity team supporting the Workman, Workman Kids, Workman Calendars, and Algonquin Young Readers imprints. The candidate will work across a diverse list of titles and national brands of books and calendars, handling a wide range of duties including support for the VP of Marketing and Publicity, who oversees the department, and Assistant Director of Publicity, who works on exciting lead titles in the children’s and lifestyle realms. This position reports jointly to the Vice President, Marketing & Publicity and Assistant Director of Publicity, and resides within the WP Marketing and Publicity department.

This is a hybrid role that works from home three days a week and commutes to Hachette’s NY office twice a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Support lead publicity campaigns managed by Assistant Director of Publicity
Independently own and manage publicity campaigns for select books, calendars, puzzles, and stationery lines
Assist Assistant Director of Publicity on lead campaigns through building media lists, media pitching, creating tour schedules, scheduling travel, arranging author escorts, writing press releases and pitch letters, preparing promotional materials for events, gathering images for media placements, and coordinating mailings (both digital and physical)
Assist with orchestrating social media influencer campaigns
Escort local and out-of-town authors to NYC-area events and media and participate in relevant NYC-based industry events and conferences, where appropriate
Assist with creating and maintaining the department digital filing system, including the creation of new publicity update, marketing shell, and budget templates for future seasons
Create press releases, pitch letters, promotional materials and media lists
Organize and coordinate author schedules
Administrative tasks include: processing weekly invoices for the department, maintenance of marketing and publicity budget, facilitating mailings, manage monthly AmEx statements through Concur Solutions, helping to manage the department internship program, note-taking at meetings
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



College degree, or equivalent work experience

Prior publicity or public relations experience through coursework, part-time work, or internships is preferred

A strong interest in reading and promoting nonfiction books

Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Positive attitude, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to ask questions

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent time management skills with ability to multitask and meet deadlines

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

A strong focus on details and deadlines

Excitement for participating in and contributing to a fun, vibrant work environment with a great company culture

Proficient in MS Word and Excel

The compensation for this position is $45,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
