Title: Journals Assistant
Description: Berghahn Books is seeking an assistant to support day-to-day tasks within its journals division. While technical requirements are a plus for this role, good organization and attention to detail are even more important. This is a good role for someone with a background in publishing, especially production, but an interest to further develop the skills needed in an ever-evolving online environment.

Main tasks and responsibilities include:

Production:
• Track and collect copyright and license forms from contributors;
• Check authors' proof corrections and final files;
• Provide support for post-production author outreach;
• Keep database records up to date and run status reports as needed;
• Assist in XML conversion process with outside vendors;
• Update platform website pages as needed.

Marketing:
• Update usage statistics for both the Berghahn Journals platform and social media;
• Support new issue marketing and commemorative day promotions which includes social media, email outreach, and academic listserv postings;
• Assist with conference planning and create marketing materials as needed;
• Monitor the general journals email inbox;
• Update print ad templates for new issues.
Requirements: Overall Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree, Social Sciences/Humanities majors preferred;
• 1-2 years of production and/or marketing experience in publishing is advantageous, but not essential;
• Must be able to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a small-firm environment;
• Must be very well organized with strong attention to detail and have a keen ability to meet deadlines and juggle priorities;
• Excellent verbal and written skills are important with an ability to communicate clearly with external as well as internal colleagues.

Technical Requirements:
• Working knowledge of HTML and XML are desirable;
• Familiarity with Mac OS, Adobe InDesign, MS Office, and FileMaker Pro are important;
• Experience with project management systems, such as JIRA and Slack is helpful;
• Familiarity with social media is a must, specifically experience with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram;
• Experience with Constant Contact or similar email platforms is helpful but not required.

Annual compensation for this position is $42,000 and includes benefits, such as Health, Vision, Dental, 401K, and a discretionary annual bonus. All salaries and salary ranges may vary depending on experience, skills, and like considerations.

The Berghahn offices are currently hybrid-office working environment. Candidates should reside in the NYC vicinity and be able to commute to Dumbo, Brooklyn as needed on a flexible hybrid schedule.
