Title: Production and Operations Temp, Mobius
Description: We are seeking a temporary employee to print and manage schedules of books and ebooks for both Mobius and John Murray Press to the required stands and schedule deadlines. The temp will work with the UK production and inventory teams on print ordering and the management of local suppliers.

The temp will work 28 hours per week for approximately 6 months, starting in early July. We are looking for candidates in the Boston area although we are open to remote candidates as well.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all aspects of production for US editions and local prints, including complex non-fiction, fiction, high profile authors and color books. Ensure that all print and digital products are delivered on time, to the required quality standards, within agreed budgets, and advise any variation appropriately.
Negotiate costs for individual projects, ensure that pricing is correct on contract and bespoke manufacturing and that supplier invoices are paid on time.
Process purchase orders and maintain accurate records on inhouse systems of all titles controlled.
Work effectively with all suppliers and maintain strong working relationships with core suppliers.
For Mobius and John Murray Press, project manage the schedule for all US titles and liaise with UK production to ensure all titles ship/arrive as scheduled. Locally print titles as needed.

For all titles printing locally, coordinate the adjustment of files with the UK Production Controller, typesetter and UK cover designer to adhere to US print manufacturing requirements.
In conjunction with the UK International Sales Director, liaise with US sales team for print figures on frontlist/backlist titles and prepare for print quantity sign-off meetings
Review inventory reports weekly and propose reprints/shipments to UK Inventory. Order reprints as required.
Transfer stock as needed from Hachette US DC to Hachette UK DC and from Hachette UK DC to Hachette US DC
Enter receipt details into US system for all printings, track deliveries and shipments, and liaise with HBG warehouse, UK Inventory, and Distribution Services to ensure all titles are received into stock as required.
Brief the Production Director on any technical, costing or scheduling issues that will adversely impact critical path delivery or approved budgets.
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Understanding of the technical processes involved in production of all print product, mono and color, and digital product
To be numerate and computer literate in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
Analytical and flexible, with problem solving skills
Attention to detail
Independent decision making
Strong communication, organizational and administrative skills
Strong negotiation skills
Commercial and financial understanding, particularly of the impact of production on gross margin performance
Experience as a Production Editor or experience in a printing environment

The hourly compensation for this position is $35.00 - $40.00 per hour. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
