Title: Editorial Assistant, Humanities
Description: W. W. Norton & Company, Inc. is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join its College Department. The Editorial Assistant will report to the Media Editor for Literature, Film, and Philosophy and will work with the humanities editorial group on a range of book and media projects. This is a full-time, entry level position based out of Norton’s headquarters in NYC.


Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

Management of content in all stages of production. This can include sending content to be reviewed by college instructors and students, setting and adhering to schedules, and preparing manuscripts and other content for copyediting and production. Media content can include, but is not limited to, instructor’s guides, assets in Norton Illumine Ebooks, questions in InQuizitive and Norton Testmaker, videos/animations, and PowerPoints.
Communication management. The Editorial Assistant will professionally interact with authors, college faculty, vendors, and marketing & sales staff, and should anticipate when to proactively act on messages.
Project management. The Editorial Assistant will collaborate with and provide support to the humanities editorial group to move various multi-step projects forward and meet publishing deadlines. This can include creating and editing Excel, Word, and Smartsheet documents to support and track projects; organizing various files and assets; managing contracts and processing payments in collaboration with the contracts department and other groups; managing text and photo permissions with authors and the permissions team; tracking and submitting reprint corrections; and contributing to promotional materials.
Data management and market research. This can include aggregating data from various sources as well as assisting with research on market trends in humanities courses and online learning.

Requirements: Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.
Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City Headquarters.

Mastery of email and calendar management tools required, specifically Outlook.
Proficiency in Word and Excel.

Currently available benefits include:

Annual compensation for this position is $42,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
