Title: | Associate Production Editor, Little, Brown |
Description: | Production Editor
Summary: Hachette Book Group / Little, Brown and Company is seeking an Associate Production Editor to manage the production of 20-25 original fiction and nonfiction titles per year from manuscript to bound book/ebook. Responsibilities: Manages 20-25 titles per year from manuscript to bound book/e-book, including general fiction and nonfiction, handles select paperback conversions. Completes electronic manuscript styling, including code marking; reviews sample pages. Hires and supervises freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, cold readers, and indexers. Reviews copyediting, working in Word to reconcile copyediting and author markup, and reviews all stages and text proofs. Copyedits and proofreads jacket / cover and galley materials from original copy , proofreads mechanicals, prepares materials for bound galleys (including covers). Performs e-book quality review. Process and review reprint corrections for backlist books w/out an assigned Production Editor. Works closely with authors and various in-house departments including editorial, production, and art in anticipating and resolving problems. Attends relevant department and interdepartmental meetings. Misc. department duties: apply for LCCNs; send freelance bills to Accounts Payable (weekly). |
Requirements: | Qualifications:
3 years relevant work experience trade publishing. Solid copyediting and proofreading skills. Strong computer/MS Word skills and knowledge of electronic copyediting and coding. Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style (16th and 17th eds.). Excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidate must be detail- and accuracy-oriented and can balance many projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining exacting standards of quality.
