Title: | Publishing Assistant |
Description: | The Experiment seeks a full-time publishing assistant to work closely with the publisher and associate publisher and other colleagues, focused on editorial, publicity, and marketing. This position offers an excellent opportunity to experience the entire publishing process, with the following responsibilities:
Editorial: Assist publisher and editors as needed, including conducting detailed research on potential acquisitions and trends; drafting copy (including tip sheet, catalog, flap/panel, and promotional); copy-editing and proofreading as needed; monitor and track submissions; research potential blurbers as directed by editors. Publicity and marketing: Draft publicity pitches, releases, and contact lists as directed; attend to our NetGalley presence; monitor social media, schedule and track posts about our books, plan our social media calendar; assist in conceptualizing, organizing, and implementing marketing and influencer campaigns; liaise with authors regarding media hits and interviews. Office management: Assist publisher, COO/CFO, and others as needed with the smooth running of our office, including shuttling outbound mail to the post office. |
Requirements: | · A bachelor’s degree
· Superlative organizational, verbal, and written communication skills · A highly developed sense of curiosity and meticulous attention to detail · Superlative time-management skills and the ability to multitask across activities and projects · Ability and inclination to work both independently and collaboratively · A strong interest in nonfiction publishing, especially in the areas in which The Experiment publishes · Some previous experience in editorial &/or media publicity and marketing useful, but not required · Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of HTML/CSS, and InDesign, and Photoshop a plus. This position is full time, working in-person from our NYC office every weekday. The compensation is $45,000 per year. Full-time employees are eligible for our benefits program. We've developed a 500+ title-strong list encompassing a wide range of practical and narrative nonfiction, including books on the sciences, nature, history, and current affairs; healthful eating; giftable, illustrated reference; pregnancy & parenting; lifestyle, health & wellness; self-help, psychology, & relationships; and creativity (art, coloring & puzzle books). Our books are sold and distributed by W. W. Norton & Company. At a time when trade book publishing is dominated by a few large companies, we are excited to be operating at the sort of intimate scale that was once the norm; our books are no less far-reaching, for it. |
