Title: Acquisitions Editor, Genre Fiction
Description: Join Diversion Books, one of the fastest growing independent publishers in the industry (Publishers Weekly 2024), where we aim to publish books that engage, enlighten, and entertain readers. Diversion is at its core an innovative, entrepreneurial company that has embraced new distribution channels since its inception in 2010—traditional and digital platforms, print, audio, film and television, and international export.

Diversion is seeking an Acquisitions Editor to acquire smart, high concept genre fiction. This is a rare opportunity to shape our fiction program and build on a strong fiction backlist that was developed during the first years of the company that has included authors such as Ursula K. Le Guin, S.E. Hinton and Ray Bradbury, amongst others. This editor will take a leading role in shaping this new line of books at Diversion and work in close collaboration with the publisher, editor in chief, sales team, as well as marketing and publicity personnel at the company.

What we're looking for:

--A dynamic, proactive editor with a proven track record for identifying, acquiring, and editing genre fiction, with a particular interest in thrillers, historical and science fiction.

--An editor with a robust network of literary agents and international publishers, plus the drive and ability to expand that network to generate new sources of submissions and acquisitions.

--An editor who understands that the role is also one of project management, being responsible for seeing books through all aspects of the publication process.

--A communicative team player committed to Diversion’s long-term goals while also getting the best out of each individual title.

--Minimum 3 years of acquisitions and editorial experience at a traditional publishing house.
Requirements: The successful candidate must have the following skills:

--Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at once.

--Must be able to maintain a high level of responsibility, take assignments and direction, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

--Excellent organization and project planning skills with flexibility and openness to new ideas.

--Excellent copy writing and communication skills are a must, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a tight-knit team; ability to confidently, professionally, and creatively approach issues of individual title and "big-picture" publishing strategy.

--Excellent command of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel; Google Docs; in-house communication systems, such as Slack; and publishing title management systems

--A strong sense of the current publishing marketplace within historical fiction, and the ability to research and develop market knowledge not already in place.
