Title: Media Editor, Economics
Description: W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a Media Editor, Economics to join its social sciences editorial group. Norton’s educational publishing division takes pride in creating high-quality and pedagogically effective digital resources for college students and instructors. A collaborative work environment is key to maintaining that high standard. Media Editors work closely with discipline editor, marketer, and specialists on their teams as well as Norton UX designers, engineers, project managers, business analysts, media project editors, and production managers to create exceptional products. Working in the social science editorial group also offers regular opportunities to learn, grow professionally, and foster innovation by sharing ideas with colleagues working in other disciplines. This position reports to the Editor in Chief for Social Sciences.


Job Advantages and Highlights:

Understanding the undergraduate course markets in economics (and select courses in business) and the diverse needs of instructors and students.
Planning, developing, and implementing strategic and innovative content to be used in digital products for teaching, learning, and assessment.
Creating budgets and development timelines to correspond with editorial, sales, and production schedules and the needs of the market.
Collaborating closely with editorial, digital design, production, and product development colleagues to ensure quality and timeliness of materials.
Finding, signing, and communicating with all authors, subject matter experts, freelancers, and vendors needed to complete a wide variety of editorial projects.
With the help of an editorial assistant and associate editor, closely monitoring projects at all stages of editorial development and production.
Clearly and compellingly presenting digital products to the Norton sales team and to faculty on campus, at focus groups, and at academic conferences.
Communicating the specifications for, and functionality of, digital media to fellow editors, designers, production managers, programmers, and software developers.

Requirements: Experience and Skills:

The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, self-motivated, creative, resourceful, collaborative, detail-oriented, and organized.
At least five years prior experience in college publishing or comparable experience creating digital products in other industries is strongly preferred.
Candidates will have an editorial mindset and a keen interest in the teaching and learning needs of college instructors and students. Communication is a cornerstone of this role, so candidates should be effective oral and written communicators.
Candidates should have experience managing various types of large, complex projects on long timelines and be able to balance being forward-looking with near-term deadlines.
Candidates should demonstrate a 'can-do' attitude and be proactive and flexible in a rapidly changing environment. This position is focused on economics and select business titles, but may offer opportunities to work on projects outside these disciplines as department needs shift.
Candidates should be interested in the challenges and opportunities of digital media as it applies to teaching and learning and be eager to uphold Norton’s high standards of content quality in all projects.
Required Qualifications:

Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
Bachelor’s Degree.
Must be able to work full business hours.
While travel is moderate, media editors must be willing and able to travel several times per year throughout the United States and Canada. Travel includes attending academic conferences and Norton sales conferences, providing on-campus sales support, networking on campus, and author meetings.
Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel including managing large datasets with functions and creating dynamic reports with PivotTables. Proficiency with video editing tools a plus.
Comfortable learning and working in new content management systems.
Must have a working knowledge of the benefits and limitations of HTML and JavaScript.
Compensation and Benefits*

Currently available benefits include:

Annual compensation for this position is between $65,000-90,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
