Requirements: Little Bee Books is seeking an experienced, creative, and results-driven Marketing and Publicity Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for leading the marketing and publicity strategy across all of our children’s imprints—Little Bee Books, Yellow Jacket, and BuzzPop. The ideal candidate will develop and execute campaigns that drive book sales, build author and illustrator visibility, and strengthen brand recognition for our imprints and company within the publishing industry and broader marketplace.

Main Responsibilities:

Marketing & Publicity Strategy
• Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and publicity plans for frontlist and backlist titles across Little Bee Books, BuzzPop, and Yellow Jacket to drive awareness and sales.
• Present campaign strategies and post-launch analytics to sales and editorial teams.
• Lead national and local media outreach to generate buzz for titles and company initiatives.
• Compile quarterly praise sheets featuring key publicity, reviews, and endorsements.
• Create advertisements and campaigns in collaboration with the sales team for co-op and retail marketing opportunities.

Author & Illustrator Relations
• Partner closely with authors and illustrators to support campaigns through author care, asset creation, and event coordination.
• Pitch creators for relevant opportunities, including festivals, trade shows, regional events, and media appearances.
• Coordinate author participation in bookstore events, school visits, and launch activities.
• Arrange and book travel and lodging for author and departmental events.

Conferences, Trade Shows, & Industry Events
• Plan, promote, and attend major conferences and trade shows (e.g., TLA, ALA, Children’s Institute, Bologna Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, London Book Fair), including managing booth presence and merchandising.
• Organize participation in AAP Children’s Book Buzzes and similar industry presentations.
• Support award campaign submissions through ALA and other state/national library and education organizations; maintain committee outreach and research new award opportunities.

Digital & Social Media
• Manage and maintain a robust social media calendar across platforms; engage with influencers and reviewers to grow reach.
• Create Amazon A+ marketing assets in coordination with the sales and design teams.
• Maintain the Little Bee Books website, including title updates, news, and digital buzz.
• Draft and distribute monthly internal and external newsletters.
• Submit “Call for Info” and other updates to trade publication calendars.

Marketing Materials & Content Creation
• Oversee creation and distribution of all marketing and publicity materials including press releases, graphics, educator guides, activity kits, and branded merchandise (e.g., tote bags, stickers).
• Develop sell sheets and additional support materials for seasonal sales conferences; present during sales meetings.
• Manage the biannual International Rights Guide production and distribution.
• Support licensed properties with website updates, press releases, and social media content as needed.

Outreach & Relationship Building
• Grow and engage a network of educators, librarians, booksellers, and academic professionals through targeted outreach and campaigns.
• Build brand recognition for Little Bee Books, BuzzPop, and Yellow Jacket within the industry through partnerships with Publishers Weekly, CBC, GLAAD, and other organizations.

Operations & Administrative Support
• Track and process departmental invoices, receipts, and related paperwork in alignment with budget.
• Coordinate departmental mailings and manage stock transfers for events and campaigns.
• Maintain departmental databases (e.g., bookstore visits, publicity contacts, social media analytics) and monitor the team’s email account (publicity@littlebeebooks.com).
• Supervise freelance publicity support and provide guidance on campaign execution and daily tasks.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred, or equivalent combination of coursework and relevant professional experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of marketing or publicity experience required, ideally within children’s book publishing.
• Strong personal passion for children’s literature.
• Proven ability to develop and execute marketing and publicity campaigns, including advertising, promotions, events, and social media.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with authors, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong reading comprehension and an eye for detail in all forms of content.

Hours of Work, Location, Salary and Benefits:

• Full-time
• Tuesdays and Thursdays are in-office and the rest of the week can be worked remotely or in-office.
• $70k - $80k salary range
• Health, Dental, Vision, 401K Employer Match, Life Insurance, PTO
• Travel is required.
