Title: Senior Publicist (Hybrid, NYC)
Description: The Senior Publicist at Diversion Books — one of publishing’s fastest-growing and most dynamic independent houses — will be a cornerstone of our Marketing and Publicity team. Charged with championing up to 50 titles each year across fiction and nonfiction, this role is about more than pitching books: it’s about shaping stories that resonate, building meaningful media relationships, and creating innovative campaigns that amplify our authors’ voices. Working closely with our editorial team and CEO, the Senior Publicist will have a direct hand in shaping the visibility and cultural impact of Diversion’s list. Hybrid (NYC).
Requirements: Responsibilities:

- Lead publicity campaigns for assigned titles and communicate results to authors and stakeholders.
- Develop press materials, pitch to general and subject-specific media, and identify new outreach opportunities.
- Manage external publicity partners and cultivate relationships with national and industry media.
- Submit titles for trade coverage and awards consideration.
- Plan and execute author events, including coordinating travel and securing local media coverage.
- Prepare authors for publicity by providing coaching, interview briefings, and media guidance.
- Advise during acquisitions on media potential and recommend editorial adjustments to strengthen positioning.
- Represent the imprint at internal meetings, author/agent interactions, industry events, and partner functions.
- Collaborate closely with marketing, editorial, operations, subsidiary rights, and sales teams.

Requirements:

- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in book publicity, with proven success securing coverage and an existing roster of book reviewers and media contacts.
- Demonstrated passion for storytelling, literature, and the publishing industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to pitch effectively to media.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can work effectively across departments.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and take ownership of assignments with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Established relationships with national media outlets and top industry reviewers.
- Experience managing publicity for high-profile, bestselling, or debut authors.
- Familiarity with the awards landscape and experience coordinating submissions.
- Familiarity with media databases (e.g., Cision, Muck Rack) a plus.
- Background in related areas of publishing (marketing, editorial, or sales) that inform publicity strategy.

Compensation:

$65,000 - 70,000
