Title: No Starch Press — Production Editor
Description: No Starch Press—publisher of bestsellers like Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, Practical Malware Analysis, and Python Crash Course—is seeking a skilled Production Editor to manage the production of ~20 titles per year. You’ll oversee schedules, budgets, and page proofs; guide authors and freelancers; and ensure every book meets our high standards of accuracy, style, and design. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of book production experience, deep familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style, and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. This is a fast-paced, detail-driven role within a small, collaborative team producing globally respected technical titles. Hybrid (San Francisco) or remote for standout candidates.
Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional book production experience

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office

  • Mastery of the Chicago Manual of Style; strong copyediting and proofreading ability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems independently

  • Experience coordinating with authors, editors, and freelancers

  • Comfortable adopting new tools and workflows; proactive in process improvement
