USP is an independent, science-based public health organization. USP's contributions to public health are enriched by the participation and oversight of volunteers representing pharmacy, medicine, and other healthcare professions as well as academia, government, the pharmaceutical industry, health plans, and consumer organizations.
Job Duties:

Assists in testing desktop publishing equipment.
Converts documents as necessary for processing.
Creates and builds new files for processing new and revision documents for publications using various types of software.
Assists in creating and revising graphics for publications.
Checks structure of data files for publications.
Assists Scientific and Editorial staff with updating data files.
Responsible for editorial quality and accuracy.
Recommends changes to USP Style Guides for consistency. Attends style guide meetings.
Proofreads print and online publications.
Copy edits for content, style, grammar, syntax and spelling.
Understands and follows USP style guide.
Verifies correct application of style.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in English or Journalism required.

KSA's and Training and Experience:
At least three years of experience in a proofing and/or editing environment. Excellent typing skills and experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, document management system software, in a Windows environment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication. Knowledge of Windows, SGML or XML, HTML, or other meta-language structures a plus. Must work independently, be a team player and work well in a tight, deadline-driven environment. Must possess an eye for detail, know how to mark up a document quickly and thoroughly for punctuation, grammar and style errors, and be proficient at marking a manuscript using standard proofreader's notation. Ability to manage multiple projects, take direction and produce defined results. Effective analytical abilities.
