Company Name: PEGASUS BOOKS
Description: We are an independent book publisher located in midtown Manhattan dedicated to the aim of publishing books that stimulate both the intellect and the imagination. We publish a wide range of fiction and nonfiction — including history, philosophy, memoir biography, literary fiction, and noir thrillers — and we strive to reach readers around the world who share our conviction that good literature is essential to the health of our cultural life.

We are seeking a publicity intern for our office in Manhattan who can assist with managing marketing and publicity related tasks. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: submission to publishing trade publications, updating and researching media contacts, creation of publicity materials such as pitch letters and PR contact lists, making internal system updates, creation of ad content and marketing materials, and assisting with media mailings and requests.

A semester-long internship in our office will expose you to a wide range of publishing tasks and should give candidates a solid understanding of the in-and-outs of the publishing industry. We emphasize mentorship and education in our internship program with regular training sessions and one-on-one career coaching, and are looking for candidates eager to learn more about the world of books and publishing.
Length of Internship: Start date flexible. Preference will be given to candidates who can come in to the Manhattan office once a week to assist with office work and media mailings.
Requirements: No previous publishing experience is required. You should have research and proofreading skills, a strong reading intelligence, be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Photoshop will be considered. An interest in publicity, marketing, and social media work is required.

Our office is located in Midtown Manhattan, and we are currently following a hybrid work from home / in person model. We are considering both remote and in person candidates, with preference given to in person.
Location: New York, NY
Payment: Unpaid. Academic credit is available. Travel stipend available if able to commute once a week to Manhattan office.
